Fish
The Narraguagus River is one of just a few rivers on the eastern seaboard that still retains all of its native diadromous fish species (species that migrate between saltwater and freshwater environments). These species include Atlantic salmon, shad, alewives, sea‑run brook trout, and American eels. Meet a few of the fish who live in the Narraguagus.
Other Wildlife
The northern section of the Narraguagus River is almost entirely forested, while its southern section flow across a glacial outwash delta where wild blueberries and salt marsh plants thrive. Numerous streams flow into the river all along the way. These different ecosystems support a great diversity of wildlife including amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals, and birds.
